Research Manager, Animal Health
DUBLIN, IRELAND · FULL-TIME · PERMANENT
Micron Agritech is building AI-powered diagnostics for animal health. Our flagship product, the Micron Kit, automates faecal egg count (FEC) testing and is deployed across 350+ veterinary practices in the UK and Ireland. We are growing fast, commercially live, and at an inflection point.
The opportunity
Most research roles sit at arm's length from the business. You write papers. You hand findings to product. You wait to see what happens.
This is not that.
As Research Manager at Micron Agritech, you will own the scientific direction of our diagnostic platform end to end - from experimental design and product development through to peer-reviewed publication and commercial deployment. You will work directly with the founding team, sit at the table where product and commercial decisions are made, and have a real stake in what gets built.
We are looking for someone who is genuinely entrepreneurial - a scientist who understands that the measure of great research is real-world impact, and who wants to build something that matters in animal health.
What you will work on
SCIENTIFIC OWNERSHIP
Lead the research function - day-to-day scientific direction, mentoring, and supervision of the research team
Design and execute experimental studies, from hypothesis through to statistical validation and commercial read-out
Own all lab protocols, SOPs, and risk assessments; sign off on research outputs to regulatory and internal standards
Get hands-on. This is a working scientist role, not a purely managerial one
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL IMPACT
Work directly with product, engineering, and commercial teams to translate research into product
Contribute scientific credibility to investor and partner conversations - you will be a key voice externally
Support field trial activity where required - some travel and a full driving licence will be needed
PUBLICATION & SCIENTIFIC COMMUNICATION
Lead submission of peer-reviewed research and preparation of technical reports and whitepapers
Represent Micron Agritech at scientific conferences and stakeholder forums
What we are looking for
ESSENTIAL
Degree and Master's (or higher) in Animal Science, Veterinary Science, Biology, or related discipline
5+ years of experience in a commercial or research-facing industry role - you understand how science connects to business outcomes
Solid grounding in parasitology, or adjacent diagnostics experience with a genuine interest in the space
Animal health background - you know this sector and its challenges
Track record mentoring or managing scientists in a high-performance, multidisciplinary environment
Published research or demonstrated scientific output
Based within commutable distance of Dublin; able to be onsite minimum 3 days per week
Full, clean driving licence
PREFERRED
PhD in a relevant discipline
Direct parasitology expertise - helminths, FEC methodology, anthelmintic resistance
Experience in diagnostics, assay development, or rapid test innovation
Background working in a startup or scale-up environment
Why join us
Equity for everyone. Every employee gets shares. You will have a stake in what you build.
Real ownership. You will not be a cog. You own the scientific domain and have a direct line to the founding team.
Salary that reflects your value. We pay competitively and do not use "mission" as a substitute for fair compensation.
Mission that matters. Anthelmintic resistance is one of the most urgent challenges in animal health. The work is scientifically important and commercially real.
The timing is right. We are at an early enough stage that what you do now will be visible in the company for years.
